Bearhill Husky

This film is about Valentijn Beets and the idea of giving dogs a well-deserved home after their careers. His vision is becoming increasingly clear that in the future there will be a need for a broad-based initiative that will find new and suitable owners for the huskies from the far north.

About Rehoming Huskies

There are many different reasons for rehoming Huskies. It can be age-related, to ensure the dog has a fulfilling life after its career as a working dog. It can also be behavioral issues that make the dog feel more comfortable outside of the kennel. It can also be physical impairments that make it difficult for the dog to run long distances. Just like us humans, every Husky is a unique individual with its own needs.

Rehoming Dogs

Growing winter tourism in Finnish Lapland has also led to an increase in the number of huskies. A new balance is needed between economic interests and species-appropriate care. Responsible tourism requires new ideas and solutions beyond husky kennels.

My Personal
Commitment

Markus Brandl
Visual Creator & Creative Producer at CAPAVY
'I grew up with a husky and have always had a passion for this breed of dog. It's like we have something in common, like snow in our blood, a feeling that is simply incredible. It can be -30°C outside, but being part of this magical atmosphere and becoming one with your surroundings warms you from the inside out.

In 2014, I felt like going on an extraordinary adventure in the Far North. And that's how I met Valentijn Beets. Each of us led our own husky team from Rovaniemi in Finland to Jukkasjärvi in Sweden. 5 days full of experiences that have never left me. It's like I've been connected to the Far North ever since.

And so it was time to return to where dreams become memories, to give something back. From an idea, new stories emerged. I hope these first small steps can be the beginning of something big. Perhaps soon we will be able to bring about the necessary change to provide as many huskies in Scandinavia as possible with a species-appropriate, vibrant life and a loving home after their careers.'
